I mentioned in the post about energy types mattering, that dam resistance consoles should have a larger spread between resist all and specific resistances. What if Tetryon did 2x damage to shields and 50% damage to hull? What if Antiproton did 75% damage to hull and shields but the critical damage was 100%? What if Disruptors did 75% damage to shields but 150% damage to hull? What if Polaron had the same proc % but did -50 to all systems? What if Phasers proc was 5% chance? It would be nice to be able to build a juggernaut with an ‘achilles heel’ but it just isn’t possible with the vanilla approach to weapons.

There are PVP guys that are so good they can wipe me out in seconds, but it is their build and piloting skills, not the weapon type. I never run into a scenario, even when facing off in PVP where by I saw a ship with a certain weapon type and I was like, “Oh shit that guy has antiproton weapons, I’m Effed!” Seriously, like NEVER. I have often lamented the fact that there just isn’t enough real difference in the weapon types and resistances. *Antiproton: +20% critical hit severity (Fek’lhri, Iconians) *Polaron: 2.5% chance to damage -25 to all power systems (Jem’Hadar) *Tetryon: 2.5% chance to deal extra damage to all shield facings (Tholians) *Plasma: 2.5% chance to apply plasma burn DoT (Romulans, Borg) *Disruptor: 2.5% chance to apply -10% Damage Resistance Debuff (KDF) *Phaser: 2.5% chance to disable random system (Federation) There are six basic energy types used in space weapons and the primary PROC: My issue is that in reality the actual difference in energy types aside from building the “perfect DPS monster” is negligible at best. I have no issue with this approach or any other approach for that matter. Players seeking maximum DPS were often focused on critical hit builds utilizing all the consoles and tweaks to their toon to get the highest possible crit chance combined with a maximum boom on each critical hit. Most of the hoopla was surrounding the proc which is a +20% critical damage. That was the end all be all of energy types. For the longest time the DPS peeps were all over Antiproton Weapons. There are players that swear by one weapon type over them all and will fight you if you disagree. I have traversed this path often before including “What if Energy Type Really Mattered?” and “The Wonderful World of Weapons”.
